Montana Skatepark Association

Overview of the Get Rollin' Grant

PLEASE READ THIS PAGE IN ITS ENTIRETY BEFORE COMPLETING THE GRANT APPLICATION.

MSA GRANT CHANGES

The MSA has changed the grant application and award process. In order for the MSA Get Rollin' Grant to have the greatest impact on a community, we have decided to offer a grant that is unique to each project. All permanent concrete skateparks have two major hurdles, the design and construction plans and the actual construction of the skatepark. Because of the limited number of potential skateparks in Montana, the MSA has decided to focus on one project at a time.

If you are interested and meet the criteria, please submit an application for our consideration. We will make the application process available every year in August with a deadline in September. After reviewing potential applicants we will contact your group/organization and inform you as to whether or not your project was selected at this time. If your skatepark is chosen, the MSA will work with you to determine how best to apply the grant funding.

MSA GRANT

The primary mission of the Montana Skatepark Association is to help Montana communities establish skateboard parks and skateboard park programming.  It is the MSA’s goal to create additional free recreational opportunities and positive alternatives for its residents and underprivileged youth.  The MSA primarily considers skatepark projects that:

  1. are designed and built by qualified and experienced skatepark contractors.
  2. include local skaters in the design process.
  3. can demonstrate a strong grassroots commitment to the project, particularly in the form of fund-raising by local skateboarders and other community groups.
  4. have a creative mix of street obstacles (rails, funboxes, launch ramps, etc..) and transition/vert terrain (quarterpipes, bowls, snake runs, halfpipes, etc..).
  5. don't require skaters or their parents to sign waivers.
  6. encourage skaters to look after their own safety and the safety of others without restricting their access to the park or over-regulating their use of it.
  7. are open during daylight hours, 365 days a year.
  8. don't charge an entrance fee.

SUPPLY VS. DEMAND

The MSA is a small 100% volunteer run non-profit organization.  Our goal is to continually raise money in order to fund the Get Rollin’ Grant program.  However, living in Montana this can be difficult, so there may be times when funds are limited.  In other words, competition could be high.  If you are not able to illustrate strong community and grass-roots support for the project, and if your project does not meet the criteria listed above, you are unlikely to receive a significant grant from the MSA.

ELIGIBILITY

Project eligibility is determined based on a range of criteria.  The community needs to demonstrate a strong, organized, motivated grassroots commitment to the project, particularly in the form of fundraising by local skateboarders and other community groups.  Projects have to demonstrate that the funds received from the MSA will produce tangible, ongoing, positive results.

The MSA only works with projects having realistic plans to be designed and built by qualified, experienced skatepark contractors.  Project development must include local skaters in the design process, specifically those in low-income areas, and/or considered “at-risk” youth.  The skateparks must be free.  The MSA pledges technical support and funds to an eligible project.

Please visit the Grant Eligibility Page before applying. Only eligible projects will be considered for the MSA grant.

If your project meets the criteria, please learn How To Apply.
